Check out The Blessings Closet in pictures. Our Mission is to provide clothing, food and education to community members in need. We accomplish our Mission by hosting events throughout the year to help and bond with community members. Browse our pictures below. We hope that you have as much fun looking at them as we had making them.
The Blessings Closet was awarded the Home Town Hero Award for Community Service. You can read the full story by clicking on the link. The Home Town Hero Award was a great gift to The Blessings Closet. It allowed us to purchase bins to use for clothing, clothing racks, hangers, and storage. It gave us the boost we needed to move forward in serving the community.
I’m a birdwatcher! I loved seeing the pictures of the beautiful birds at Shepherdstown Middle School. We were invited to the school as a resource for free clothing. It was a great day, and a wonderful opportunity to meet community members and see the artwork of local students.
Not In My House. The Cardinal is the mascot for Shepherdstown Middle School. I loved this photo in the cafeteria. It took me back to the days of me roaming the halls while heading to class or getting something out of my locker at Shepherdstown Middle School. Great memories.
The Blessings Closet in pictures shows various community events that we host, and some of our volunteers. For example, we host a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway and a full Christmas dinner to community members in need. Each year, we have community members, family and churches donate turkeys, vegetables, and other ingredients to make Christmas dinner. We also provide treats for the children for Christmas Eve such as apples, brownies, and popcorn while they enjoy an evening of Christmas movies.
Additionally, we partner with the Shepherdstown Fire Department where we host clothing giveaways and our annual bookbag giveaway. We provide community members with book bags for high school, middle, and elementary school children. We also provide school supplies given to us by United Bank in Shepherdstown.
Furthermore, we provide young ladies from our local high school with Prom and Homecoming dress giveaways. The Prom and Homecoming dresses are donated by located mothers and boutiques. We host a giveaway at either the Shepherdstown Community Club or our physical location at 324 W Stephen Street. The girls browse the dresses, try them on, and select their dream dress. We bag the dresses and send the young ladies out and into a night of elegance and fun with schoolmates.
Additionally, we host book giveaways at one of the local parks. We invite community members to come out and bring their children to grab a few books to read over the summer. We provide face painting, a hot dog roast, bookmakers, and an incentive to read over the summer.
In addition to reading, we provide craft classes for our youth, story time where a volunteer reads to children, mental health luncheons for teens where we discuss issues that are important to our youth, confidence-building workshops, public speaking classes, etc.
You can find us on Facebook and on BlueSky. Be sure to follow us so you can stay in the know of upcoming events.
